Fair Fundraiser, Ramla Bay 16th AUGUST 2008 from 9.00am - 6pm

Instead of our traditional Klondike dig we are running an all day fair of fun for all the kids to enjoy and participate in.

This is how the Fun Fare Fundraiser works:

Fun events 2007You simply stand in line. Pay your €1 or €2 and have fun playing our many games.

All proceeds will be placed in an account for partial payment of well-needed equipment we need to purchase, which we either rent or loan out to patients returning home from the hospital.

Ramla 2007We are proud to announce that our donation of €13,976.24 (Lm 6,000 ) worth of new equipment for the physiotherapy department. Pictures can be seen on all our posters around Gozo. This loan to the Gozo hospital has made both patients and staff very happy. It was badly needed.

A list of all the events and times will be posted outside the main tent for your viewing. There will also be some free fun contest that all are welcome to join in.

This year we have included a raffle. 6 tickets for 5 euros. All prizes are worth over 30 Euros. Please note the list of these items out side the main tent also. Tickets will be sold all day and the numbers will be called at 5pm.

Fundraising Activities

The vast majority of members are passive and support the society solely by their membership fee, currently €3.00 annually or €25.00 for life-membership. Apart from the monthly committee meetings, the small group of active members organise fund-raising activities, the principal ones being an annual lunch, an occasional dinner and six seasonal car-boot sales. Recently, they published a number of interesting cookery ideas in "The Friends' Recipe Book", which sells for €2.50 a copy.

Considerable funds are essential for the achievement of certain projects and the "Friends" are very grateful for the generous assistance they get from the Ministry for Gozo, the Community Chest Fund and many other benefactors who are too numerous to name here.

Car Boot Sale  "Turn your unwanted treasures into Cash"

This sale is organised by FSEG volunteers to generate funds from selling car-boot spaces and also from an FSEG stall of items donated by friends and the wider public.

The Car boots are held from 8:30am onwards on the last Sunday of March, April, May, September, October & November at Marsalforn Car park. Sellers pay on the day at €10.00 per car-space (no commercial vehicles).

Please deliver any donated items (e.g. books, household goods, bric-a-brac) to Mrs Audrey Pace at 17, St Francis Square, Victoria. If you cannot deliver then we can arrange to collect them from you. Typically we collect items up-to 2 or 3 days before the event to give us time to sort and price them.

Friends' Recipe Book

This book contains a range of "The Friends" favourite recipes, and compiled by Mary Mizzi. It was originally put together to start the "Meals on Wheels" service and there are still some copies available for €2.50 each.

Annual Lunch & Occasional Dinners

We also organise occasional dinners and an annual lunch at a variety of prestigious locations in Gozo such. These are usually advertised by word of mouth, Radio , Adverts in the Gozo page of the Sunday Times and, of course, on this website.

NEW Projects

The funds we collected so far have been used to buy much needed equipment for the Physiotherapy Department of the Gozo Hospital. The following items were formally presented by FSEG President Dr J B Pace to the Hon. Giovanna Debono, Minister for Gozo on Wednesday 5 December, the UN International Volunteer Day:

  1. A Cyclette ("Tonika" full-body exerciser) for physiotherapy
  2. A Neurological Standing Frame (Standy Electro WING with full-body support) for physiotherapy,
  3. Interferential treatment unit ("Erbogalvan") for physiotherapy
  4. Infrared equipment (3-lamp unit) for physioterapy
  5. A Pulse Oximeter for the Paediatric ward
  6. A Pulse Oximeter/Temperature/Blood Pressure Monitor for the Female General ward.
  7.  A portable Ultrasound System for the Obstetric & Gynaecology wards (this was bought jointly by the FSEG and a voluntary body set up recently specifically for that sole purpose.

The "Jum Internazzjonali tal-Voluntarjat" was purposely chosen as particularly suitable for the presentation.

More recently, The Friends provided an electrically-controlled Examination Couch for the Podology Clinic, a floatable Rock Spine Board for rescue/emergenies and a few occupational therapy items for the elderly. These items have not been presented officially yet but are already in use at GGH.
